Nominated for The Chris Tarrant Award sponsored by The Oracle
A breast cancer diagnosis inspired Lynne Shipton to support others at a difficult, stressful and often financially challenging time in their lives.
Her idea was to provide a bag full of carefully curated products aimed to alleviate some of the effects of the disease and help people through their treatment – and Chemogiftbags was born.
Her nominator for The Chris Tarrant Award, sponsored by The Oracle shopping centre, said: “Lynne is the epitome of a community champion.
“She has worked tirelessly since 2015, devoting an enormous amount of her time over the last eight years providing Chemogiftbags to men and women facing chemotherapy following a breast cancer diagnosis.”
The said, despite having her own challenges as a wheelchair user, she spends hours curating products for the bags, delivering them, fundraising, marketing, networking and generally immersing herself in the charity.
“She is totally dedicated to achieving her mission of a 'hug in a bag' for every breast cancer chemo patient across the Thames Valley,” they said.
“Her tireless work, alongside her small group of volunteers, is immensely appreciated by those who have received a Chemogiftbag.”
Their recent comments include 'thank-you for this wonderful and very thoughtful gift', 'a lovely gesture during this testing time' and from a 34-year-old with three young children 'my bag made me cry, as did my card and I am so grateful - it is a wonderful thing to have done'.
