Our next nomination for the Cultural Contribution award, sponsored by M&G Real Estate, is a fairly new venture in Reading, lota Events run by Jasmin Ward.
lota have been hosting events at venues around Reading for more than a year and organise drag nights, karaoke, bingo, and brunches.
A nominator said: “Their events are always incredibly well-organised, creating a unique and safe space for queer and straight people to gather in Reading. It has honestly been a Godsend. It is the safest place I have felt for people of the LBGTQ+ community in a long time and a lot of cisgender or/and straight people come to the events as well.
“In general, they create a safe place where everyone feels welcome. They've invigorated the local LGBTQ+ scene in the most amazing way, by giving queer people a stage, a voice and an audience”.
lota Events have also been nominated for an Entrepreneur of the Year Award, sponsored by Macbeth.
