Building for the Future
Nominated for Charity of the Year sponsored by Roc Search
Building for the Future is a charity run by families and carers which provides vital centres, services and support for some of Berkshire's most severely complex disabled children and young people.
Now it has been nominated for the Charity of the Year award sponsored by international recruitment firm Roc Search.
Its nominator says those involved “work tirelessly to fundraise and put on events and sessions at the charity's accessible play centre, Our House, and in the community.”
The charity puts disabled children and young people first, they said. “Through play sessions, family events and therapy groups, they bring disabled children and people out of isolation and make them feel wanted, valued and included.”
The charity recently launched services for disabled school and college leavers, helping them to bridge the employment and social gap between leaving education and starting adult life. It has gathered local disabled artists to show off and sell their work at the charity’s first exhibition in September in Twyford.
The charity has also recently helped families in the cost of living crisis by providing a winter warm space five days a week, offering food and the use of the centre's kitchen and laundry facilities.
“Many families came for warmth, sustenance, companionship and to use the centre's electricity to charge wheelchairs and speech machines. The charity also provides a lifeline of support to parents and carers with a 24/7 phone line and WhatsApp support group,” said the nominator.
